Purpose & Activities:
This is a cultural educational program for grade school aged youth who have a desire to learn about African American culture and African ethnicity. The purpose of this organization is to teach understanding and appreciation for Black music, dance, literature, fine arts, skilled craftsmanship and life skills. Young people will learn the history and heritage of Black arts and muses with an opportunity to develop and display their artistic talents. This program is open to the community with strict guidelines for membership.
All members must be full-time students. Each member must maintain at least a 70% core and accumulated GPA with no excessive absences or truancy violations. The participating youth cannot have a history of violence or criminal behavior. (The code of conduct for each youth follows the guide lines of the Dallas and Fort Worth Independent School Districts.)
Although the program presently focuses on high school students, the program will eventually include young people in grades 5th and up. Our goal is to create a safe haven for young people who want to learn about their history in an environment that is healthy, safe and properly supervised.
